Love Precedes Performance

“If you love me you will keep my commandments”  – John 14:15

Have you ever felt condemned after reading these words of Jesus? I have.

Today’s generation usually feels that way, and most times for good reason. We’ve been taught that our good performance is proof of our love. Wrong!

Jesus was not saying, “Keeping my commandments PROVES you love me.” What He was saying was, “Love me, and as you love me, you’ll keep my commandments.”

We’re not performing FOR Jesus…we’re loving Jesus. Love precedes performance. Obedience is the overflow of our love for Him.  Make sense?

So how do we love Him? Worship Him. With our WHOLE HEART AND SOUL, worship Jesus! As we begin our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, God will not be impressed with how hungry we get. Worship, however, always turns our Father’s head. The more we worship and love on Jesus, we’ll find that we obey Him just because…

There. That’s much more simple isn’t it?
